New drivers need better habits.
How long does it take to change a bad habit? Research tells us that it takes more than two months, 66 days to be exact, and even that isn’t really the magic number. For some, bad habits that are really ingrained can take up to eight months to conquer, assuming you have the patience to be diligent about change and not throw in the towel.
But what if you never developed those bad habits to begin with? What if you could start doing something well from day one? This could be a real lifesaver, especially when we relate it to driving.
1 in 5 new drivers is involved in a collision during their
first two years of driving.*
Statistically, the folks at Saferoads.com have found that young drivers are more likely to commit a driving error than any other driver. Most commonly they are following too closely, running off the road, making a left turns across the path of an oncoming vehicle, and stop sign violations.
Imagine a whole generation of new drivers who learned smart habits to begin with, and were even rewarded for getting it right? InsureMy’s Carrot New Driver program aims to do just that. This app based coaching tool allows new drivers to monitor and self regulate their driving behavior.
How does it work?
Driving data is collected from the new drivers vehicle via Bluetooth or an on-board device called a Wingman that sits on the dash. It connects with a smartphone app to relay information about how smoothly the driver brakes, accelerates, corners, and more. The data provides the information needed to produce a driver scorecard based performance. This happens on a trip-by-trip basis, so drivers can regularly review and determine where they need to improve. Parents can access the information too, from an online portal. This makes it far less stressful for both the parent and new driver to coach and learn.
What about the rewards?
Participants in the program can earn cash just for maintaining an overall good score – up to $50 per quarter! Consistently driving well means consistently earning rewards.
Additionally, those who choose to insure their vehicle through InsureMy will receive a discount for the policy year upon enrollment.
